Topaz is found in many countries including Brazil, Sri Lanka, United States and Russia.

Red and pink topaz was widely used in the jewellery of the 18th and 19th century Russian Czarinas and are now commonly referred to as Imperial Topaz.

The most famous topaz is a large white topaz which was actually thought to be a diamond, the Braganza Diamond.

This 1,680ct. rough stone was found in Minas Gerais, Brazil in 1797 which was subsequently surrendered to the King of Portugal who had it set in the Portuguese Crown Jewels.
